VINEYARDS

The vineyards, that consists of approximately 200 acres, feature the desirable IGT and DOCG denomination. The vines were originally cultivated with the classic Guyot approach and have been converted to the Cordon spur method.

“IGT” AND “DOCG”:

• DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita): All wines that feature this designation on the label must adhere to strict rules and regulations, set forth to promote both the consistency and quality of product. The wine is tested by a committee that guarantees the geographic authenticity of the wine and it's quality. There are currently only a handful of Italian wines that qualify for DOCG status.

IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica): The final classification in Italy’s appellation system is the IGT designation. IGT wines are the least stringent categorization of appellated wines in Italy, though that’s not to say they’re low in quality. Indeed, many of the country’s finest Super Tuscans are of IGT appellation, commanding extremely high prices and ending up in the collections of the world’s most serious connoisseurs.

In 2016 the Palagio winery produced around 977 US ton of grapes, 6,623 Hl of wine and 800,000 bottles of wine.

ONE OF THE MOST EXCLUSIVE WINE BUSINESS IN TUSCANY

The Palagio estate features a recently updated production facility with industrial machinery. The RE portion was built in 1997 and since has been consistantly updated with state of the art machinery. The production facility is oversized for the actual needs of the estate and has a total yearly production capacity of: 16,000 Hl or 177,777 cases of wine or 2,133,333 standard size bottles. During the harvest, the wines is vinificated with a slow pellicular-cold-dynamic-maceration using the “Ganimede” method in order to increase the complexity of the taste and to increase the extraction of the aromas. After this stage, the wine begins to be aged in stainless steel vats and French oak barriques.
